Join us for the Inaugural AANS/CNS Section on Tumor and EANS tumor board on May 3, 2024, from 1-3 pm at McCormick Place, in Chicago.

The AANS/CNS Section on Tumors Global Neurosurgery Committee had a busy year engaging the neuro-oncology community throughout the world. Importantly, the Global Neuro-Oncology Committee embodies this year’s AANS Annual Meeting theme “What Matters,” as more than two-thirds of the world’s population are unable to access even basic care for their brain and spine tumors. Even in well-resourced countries, such as the USA and Australia, there exists significant disparities in care based on race, gender and socioeconomic status. Thus, the education and advocacy work of the Section on Tumors and its Global Neurosurgery Committee Matters more than ever. Our chief activities are educational, but also with the intention of building bridges and networks to the benefit of the global community. 2023 was a productive year! June saw a successful and engaging joint meetings with the Mexican Neurosurgery Society Challenges in Brain Tumor Management: Case Discussion with case-based discussions for intra-axial and skull base tumors. In July, a joint AASNS/CNS Section and WFNS webinar on Glioblastoma International Awareness Day was a fantastic update on the state of the art of glioblastoma care. A hybrid meeting on July 20 with SNOSSA (Society for Neuro-Oncology in Sub-Saharan Africa) was very well received. The wider SNOSSA conference had the theme of Optimizing Neuro-Oncology Outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa, and we leveraged both on site faculty and virtual speakers for case discussions and expert presentations on Brain Tumor Diagnosis and Care for a fantastic session. In December, a combined session with the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors and WFNS Neuro-Oncology Committee saw a successful overview and update of Global Neuro-Oncology.

These meetings have gone a long way to fulfil our remit — building bridges to advance the surgical care of brain and spine tumor patients across the globe. We particularly thank Dr. Germano for her support, leadership and contribution to these meetings.

We thank the members of the AANS/CNS Joint Tumor Section who have contributed to these programs — and look forward to your continuing support!
