From the Chair

Dear Colleagues,

Fairmont, Austin, Texas
Meeting Conference Site (Fairmont, Austin, Texas)

The AANS/CNS Tumor Section Satellite meeting is finally upon us.  The Satellite meeting is filled with timely and impactful lectures on spinal oncology, the tumor microenvironment, endoscopic skull base surgery, neurosurgeons as clinician scientists, managing recurrence in neuro-oncology, and incorporating technology into a neurosurgical oncology practice.  Dr. Edward Laws is the honored guest for the meeting.  The Gala Dinner will be at the Four Seasons in Austin, Texas.  Special thanks to Drs. Dunn and Vogelbaum for the meeting planning and Drs. Moliterno and Ramakrishna for help with meeting development.  Dr. Michael Ivan helped to serve as the meeting site coordinator.  I would also like to thank the broader scientific planning committee for the Tumor Satellite meeting including Pablo Recinos, Nam Tran, John Chi, Isaac Yang, Linda Bi, Nduka Amakulor, Chad Glenn, Senuggu Han, and Gautam Mehta.

The scientific program for the 2021 CNS Annual meeting was designed by Michael Ivan, Jonathan Sherman, and Brad Zacharia.  The meeting features Dr. L. Dade Lunsford as the Bittner lecturer.  Dr. Geraleh Zadeh serves as the Guha lecturer.

Also, I want to extend special gratitude to Brian Williams and Kaisorn Chaichana who developed the Tumor Section’s content for the 2021 AANS Annual meeting.  The meeting in Orlando had significant scientific and practical sessions related to neurosurgical oncology.

We continue host virtual scientific offerings with the Journal of Neuro-Oncology (JNO), CNS, and SNO.  Randy D’Amico and Nitesh Patel have blazed new trails with “Tumor Talk” webinars sponsored by the JNO.  These weekly webinars have attracted luminary presenters from U.S. and international sites.  The Latin American Tumor Talk (LATTE) sessions have also built up a Latin American audience for the JNO and, more broadly, the Tumor Section.  LATTE has been organized by Dr. Quinones and Dr. Ruiz under the auspices of the Tumor Talk team.

I appreciate your continued commitment to the Tumor Section and look forward to seeing you in-person in Austin, Texas.

Sincerely,

Jason Sheehan, MD, FAANS
