I am delighted to be the chair of the Education Committee, together with Dr. Analiz Rodriguez as co-chair, and Drs. Michael Lim, Pablo Recinos, Viviane Tabar and Brad Zacharia as committee members. We are preparing and providing educational content that will be presented in the Annual Scientific Meetings in 2022/23, as well as the Tumor Satellite in 2023. We will be bringing a number of virtual educational content presented in a variety of formats ranging from webinars, educational podcasts, case-based review of literature and literature on intersection of sections within oncology, plus opinion pieces on topical subjects in the field of CNS oncology. We look forward to engaging all members of the Tumor Section and partnering with other sections of AANS/CNS. We will also take advantage of the opportunity with the Education Committee to explore and introduce educational topics on training of academic neurosurgeons, surgeon-leaders, and surgeon-entrepreneurs.
Specific to CNS 2022 held in San Francisco on October 8-12, 2022, we are excited to provide learning opportunities from the tumor section to the neurosurgery community. There are several new sessions this year. For example, we will have a Frontiers in Skull Base Surgery Symposium in collaboration with the North American Skull Base Society. We also will be offering sessions relevant to the tumor neurosurgeon’s practice such as “Mapping and Monitoring of Tumors in Eloquent areas”, “Intraprocedural Delivery of Adjuvant Treatments for Brain and Spine tumors” and “Multidisciplinary Treatment of spine metastasis.” We also will be providing updates on brain tumor management for the advanced practice provider. Our guideline session will be on Progressive Glioblastoma.
