Within the past decade, we have seen significant progress made in the treatment of systemic tumors. These incremental gains were made in the areas of immunotherapy, targeted therapy and radiotherapy. We recognize that these successes could only be possible through the cooperation of scientists, surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists participating in basic and clinical research. We hope to parallel these successes by providing leadership to guide the growth of spinal oncology. Our areas of focus will be the education and mentorship of the next generation of spine surgeons, partnership with industry to develop and test innovative technologies, such as carbon fiber implants and radiofrequency ablation and increasing clinical trials in spine oncology with adjuvant immuno- or targeted therapies. This collaborative effort will connect all disciplines at our neurosurgical meetings (CNS and AANS) as well as Oncology meeting (SNO). We hope to see you at CNS this Fall in San Francisco.
