Research is a bedrock for neurosurgeons dedicated to the treatment of patients with brain and spinal tumors. Members of the tumor section have traditionally been leaders amongst neurosurgeons in translational and clinical research. The newly revamped Research Committee is focused on enabling early career neurosurgeon-scientists launch successful academic careers. We plan to survey the existing shortfalls in current research initiatives for early career neurosurgeons. To help address these shortfalls, we anticipate launching in-person and virtual programs to help disseminate information that address potential knowledge gaps. In addition, we will provide opportunities for early career neurosurgeons to be paired with more advanced career neurosurgeons to permit more individualized mentorship.
The AANS/CNS Section on Tumors partners with NREF to provide the following research grants to top-scoring research grants submitted annually to NREF:
- The Andrew T. Parsa Research Fellowship Grant: one $50K grant/year
- The Section on Tumor Research Fellowship Grant: one $50K grant/year
- The StacheStrong Foundation Research Fellowship Grant: two $50,000 grants/year
- The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation (SBTF) Research Fellowship Grant: one $50,000 grant/year
In 2022, a new partnership was formed:
