Methodology Update: The CNS is performing a comprehensive assessment in an effort to improve its Guidelines methodology and development process.  While no major methodological changes are expected, CNS plans to update its current process to ensure efficiency and robustness, remaining at the forefront of high-quality Guidelines development. CNS is committed to maintaining the infrastructure to develop and disseminate high-quality clinical practice guidelines to help clinicians confront a rapidly changing healthcare environment and improve patient outcomes.

Core Activity of the Guidelines Committee: New Guidelines in development include the multiple chapters Functioning Pituitary Adenoma Guidelines and Metastatic Spine Tumor Guidelines. As we publish more Guidelines, the update process has become a larger part of our duties< as well. The low-grade glioma guideline update is currently under review with the Joint Guidelines Review Committee. The vestibular schwannoma guideline update, nonfunctioning pituitary adenoma guideline update and guidelines for emerging therapies for metastatic brain tumors are each in preparation for submission to the same review committee.

Interaction with Outside Organizations: The section has been asked to provide expert participants for the American Society of Radiation Oncology in their development of a guideline on radiation therapy for WHO Grade 4 Adult-Type Diffuse Gliomas. In a similar vein, the Tumor Section has been asked for experts to participate in the update of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Brain Metastases Guidelines.

Education and Dissemination: With the CNS theme of Imagine, Innovate, Inspire, morning seminars of the Low-Grade Glioma Update and Brain Metastases Guidelines Update on Emerging Therapies will be held at the upcoming CNS meeting. Further efforts through publication in the peer-reviewed literature, email blasts, newsletters and the CNS Guidelines app all serve to expand knowledge and utilization of these important Guidelines products.
