The Tumor Section CAST sub-committee met at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting in Los Angeles in April 2023. We engaged in an exercise to re-imagine the requirements for neurosurgical oncology training that would best allow neurosurgeons to innovate in our field and inspire the next generation of fellowship trainees. After a lively discussion, a consensus was reached and the requirements for the CAST Neurosurgical Oncology (NO) fellowships were revised to better reflect a focus of training for neurosurgical oncologists that is separate and distinct from that of the newly developed CAST Skull Base fellowships. These new Neurosurgical Oncology requirements and case log minimums were approved by the CAST executive committee at the SNS Annual meeting in May 2023 and will go into effect starting with the next fellowship application and annual report cycle in January 2024.
