Early Career Neurosurgeons Committee (ECNC)

(Formerly Young Neurosurgeon -YNS)

Chair, Co-Chair: Randy D’Amico, MD, and Raj Mukherjee, MD

Moving into 2023, the AANS Young Neurosurgeon’s Committee (YNC) has transitioned to the Early Career Neurosurgeons Committee (ECNC), chaired by Dr. Walavan Sivakumar. The ECNC continues to support the interests and needs of medical students, residents and young neurosurgeons within the Section on Tumors.

We continue to champion the Chris Philips Honor Your Mentor Fund, an NREF grant aimed at advancing medical student mentorship, research, education and participation in organized neurosurgery. Our inaugural ECNC event was the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors ECNC Reception held in conjunction with the CNS 2022 Annual Meeting on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Marriott Marquis-San Francisco. The keynote speaker was Shawn Hervey-Jumper, MD, of University of California-San Francisco, whose presentation, “Victories and Defeats: My Journey Through Neuro-Oncology Neurosurgery,” included technical pearls and sage advice on navigating neurosurgical training and practice.

Our next AANS/CNS Section on Tumors ECNC will take place during the 2023 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting. The event will commence on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 6 pm PST within the JW Marriott at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California. Our keynote speaker will be Melanie Hayden Gephart, MD, MAS, professor of neurosurgery and director of the Brain Tumor Center Stanford Medicine. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
