Tumor Satellite Symposium 2021

Thank you to all of the members who attended and supported our 15th Biennial Tumor Section Satellite Symposium, held last October 15–16, 2021, in Austin, Texas. The meeting was a tremendous success and was one of the largest symposiums to date.  Congrats to the 2021 meeting chairs Dr. Michael Vogelbaum and Dr. Ian Dunn as well as Section Chair Dr. Jason Sheehan.

 

Our keynote speaker Dr. José del R. Millán, Past-President BCI Society gave a motivational speech on the future of brain computer interface in our field with hope of a new methods to improve neuroplasticity and neurological recovery after surgery.

 

The meeting highlighted some of the critical areas of research and technological advances in neurosurgical neuro-oncology, including tumor microenvironment and spinal oncology. We also focused on neurosurgeons as clinical scientists and managing recurrence in neuro-oncology.

 

The Anniversary Gala highlighted the well-deserved Tumor Section’s Career Awardees including:

The Mark Rosenblum Distinguished Service Award – Dr. Mitchel Berger

The Charles B. Wilson Award – Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa

The Andrew T. Parsa Mentorship Award – Dr. L. Dade Lundsford

 

The symposium closed with a full afternoon, dedicated to honoring the impressive and impactful career of Edward R. Laws, Jr., MD.
