Cerebrovascular<\/strong> (CV):<\/span><\/strong> The CV section has been active with the CAST accreditation process for cerebrovascular fellowships, now moving forward with the support of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons (ABNS), American Board of Radiology (ABR) and ABPN. Join us at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting! <\/p>\n

History:<\/strong> The History Section is welcoming young neurosurgeons to get involved by sending new ideas, helping with the annual history video and planning the next meeting.<\/p>\n

Pain:<\/strong> There will be a Pain Section meeting held in conjunction with the Spine Section meeting in 2019 (March 13-14 in Miami Beach, Fla.) highlighting neuromodulation as a treatment for back pain. The Pain Section has been very active in the AMA opioid task force and is intimately involved in developing state-specific, mandated opioid CMEs. The Pain Section continues to offer the Oakley Fellowship, which supports a 2-3 month traveling experience to learn neurosurgical pain techniques and\/or refine their use. Eligible applicants are residents PGY4 or later, or neurosurgeons within two years of finishing residency. <\/p>\n

Pediatrics:<\/strong> Information regarding research awards for fellows and early career faculty members is posted on the Section website. The 2018 AANS\/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery Annual Meeting December 6-9 in. Nashville, Tenn. was a great success. <\/p>\n

Spine and Peripheral Nerve:<\/strong> The Spine Section will host their annual meeting March 14-17, 2019, in Miami Beach, Fla. (Technical Innovation for Restoring Patient Function<\/span><\/em>). They will continue to utilize the fast-abstract concept. <\/p>\n

Stereotactic and Functional:<\/strong> The AASFN is forming a young neurosurgeon\u2019s subcommittee within the section and looking for interested members. They are looking for young neurosurgeon (and medical student) input in regards to the ASSFN Newsletter, including writing articles. Neurotrauma:<\/strong> The Trauma Section continues to offer the Codman Resident Neurotrauma Research Award. The Section is working with the National Neurotrauma Society on NIH grants aimed at preventing pediatric head trauma. The AANS\/CNS National Neurotrauma Symposium, held in conjunction with the International Neurotrauma Society, in Toronto (August 11-16, 2018) was well attended and a great success. <\/p>\n

Tumor:<\/strong> The Young Neurosurgeon Reception at the 2018 CNS Annual Meeting with honored guest Nelson Oyesiku, MD, PhD, FAANS, went extremely well. Information regarding all of the upcoming meetings and funding sources for research grants and fellowships, including the Andrew Parsa fellowship, is posted on the website.<\/p>\n
