Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n
On behalf of the AANS\/CNS Section on Tumors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 16<\/strong> AANS\/CNS Section on Tumors Symposium on September 8-9, 2023, in Washington, DC<\/strong> just before the \u00a0CNS Annual Meeting. The meeting\u2019s theme: \u201cBrain and Spine Recurrent Tumors: The Neurosurgeon\u2019s Role,<\/em>\u201d coupled with the meeting location and the world-renowned experts, are tremendous attractants to the participants. This resulted in a historically highest number of submitted abstracts and meeting registrations <\/strong>to theAANS\/CSN Section on Tumors Symposium. Gelareh Zadeh<\/strong>, scientific chair, and Pablo Recinos<\/strong> and Chetan Bettegowda<\/strong>, co-chairs, have done a superb job with its scientific program to include four sessions highlighting neurosurgery challenges and updates in caring for patients with recurrent glioblastoma, meningiomas, brain and spine metastatic disease. In alignment with the CNS 2023 theme \u201cImagine, Innovate, Inspire<\/em>\u201d, the Tumor Session Symposium is weaved with new ideas, interactive discussions, innovative content and mentoring opportunities. A special segment for the Advance Practice Providers (APPs) will take place each day<\/strong>. Please join us at the Symposium Gala on Friday, September 8,<\/strong> to network and celebrate the 16th AANS\/CNS Section on Tumors Symposium Awardees.<\/p>\n The executive committee (EC) members I convened, led by the chairs and co-chairs of the EC sub-committees, have been very active over the past six months working at the sections\u2019 goals. Please join me in thanking each of them for their voluntarism and hard work. Below is a summary of their recent accomplishments while continuing to build upon the goals and deliverables I set forth when I started my post as section chair.<\/p>\n Leveraging the great success of \u201cHeadlines<\/em>\u201d, an interactive series to facilitate partnership within the section leaders and to provide role model examples to our trainees and young neurosurgeons, the Development and Partnership<\/u> sub-committee, under the leadership of Brian Nahed<\/strong> (chair) and Susan Pannullo<\/strong> (co-chair), is hosting a new series: \u201cFuture Leaders<\/em>\u201d, highlighting junior faculty and fellows and their clinical and scientific work and career plans in neurosurgical oncology. Randy Jansen<\/strong> (chair) and Isaac Yang<\/strong> (co-chair) with the Membership and Membership Services<\/u> sub-committee provide important deliverables to our members. Kimberly Hoang<\/strong> (chair) and Claire Karekezi<\/strong> (co-chair) with the Communication<\/u> sub-committee are facilitating agile communication across the globe. Garni Barkhoudarian<\/strong> (editor) and Kristin Huntoon <\/strong>(assistant editor) assembled this great Newsletter<\/u>.<\/p>\n Gelareh Zadeh<\/strong> (chair) and Analiz Rodriguez<\/strong> (co-chair) provide leadership to organize and amplify our Education<\/u> portfolio. Maryam Rahman<\/strong> (chair) and Chetan Bettegowda<\/strong> (co-chair) guide our section\u2019s mission to support, mentor and encourage research<\/u>. Additionally, we work closely with the NREF to support and raise funding for research grants. The section\u2019s CNS 2023 Scientific Program<\/u> is a testament to the superb leadership of Tiffany Hodges<\/strong> (chair<\/strong>) and Kimberly Hoang, MD, Wajd Al-Holou, MD<\/strong> (co-chairs). Jeff Olson<\/strong> (chair) and Ryan Ormond<\/strong> (co-chair) continue the productive leadership of CNS tumor Guidelines<\/u>.<\/p>\n Under the leadership of Jennifer Moliterno<\/strong> (chair), Frank Attenello and Will Curry<\/strong> (co-chairs), the Awards sub-committee continues to expand our award portfolio with 20 Awards given at the CNS 2023<\/u><\/strong> and re-focusing on different aspects of the section\u2019s very talented contributors.<\/p>\n Our section\u2019s collaborative efforts are led by individuals and subcommittee chairs as following: Steve Kalkanis<\/strong> with ABNS<\/u>; Christopher Cifarelli<\/strong> with ASTRO<\/u>; Linda Liau<\/strong> (chair) with CAST<\/u>; Stephanie Cheok and Christian Bowers<\/strong> (co-chairs) with the Early Career Neurosurgeons Committee<\/u> (ECNC);\u00a0 Ian Parney <\/strong>(Chair) Historian<\/u>; Jason Sheehan <\/strong>(editor) with JNO<\/u>; Linda Bi<\/strong> (chair) and Dan Prevedello<\/strong> (co-chair) with Skull-Base<\/u> focused projects; Lissa Baird<\/strong> (chair) and Anthony Wang<\/strong> (co-chair) with Pediatrics<\/u>; Christopher Newman<\/strong> with SANS; Tiffany Hodges<\/strong> with the Washington Committee<\/u>; Andrew Sloan<\/strong> and Michael Vogelbaum<\/strong> with the Coding and Reimbursement Committee<\/u> (CRC); Ekk Kasper<\/strong> (chair) and Kate Drummond<\/strong> (co-chair) with Global Neurosurgery<\/u>; Tracy Batchelor<\/strong> with the Society of Neuro-Oncology<\/u> (SNO); Paul Gardner<\/strong> with the CNS Foundation<\/u>; Christopher Newman<\/strong> with SANS<\/u>; Nicholas Szerlip<\/strong> (chair) and Nam D. Tran<\/strong> (co-chair) with Spine Oncology<\/u>. A special thank you to Costas Hadjipanayis<\/strong> serving as section\u2019s <\/u>secretary\/<\/u>treasurer<\/u>.<\/p>\n Edjah Nduom<\/strong> (chair) and the Bylaws sub-committee spearheaded our section\u2019s Rules and Regulations update. This was ratified by both parent organizations in the Spring of 2023.<\/p>\n\n
