{"id":50,"date":"2019-04-02T16:30:34","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T16:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/f0c1857d78.nxcli.net\/tumor\/?page_id=50"},"modified":"2019-04-08T20:17:56","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T20:17:56","slug":"cns-2018-meeting-highlights","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/newsletters.aans.org\/tumor\/tumor-section-spring-2019\/cns-2018-meeting-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"CNS 2018 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you for those who attended the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Section on Tumors sessions.<\/p>\n<p>To recap, the meeting supplied a rich program highlighting the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of oncological disorders of the nervous system. The overarching theme focused on the impact of technological advances in shaping the way we deliver neurosurgical care to our patients with tumors.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>main scientific sessions<\/strong> featured the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Contemporary Management of Incidentally Discovered Tumors, including lower grade gliomas, meningiomas and vestibular schwannomas.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Technological Advances in Adjuncts to Brain Tumor Surgery, such as fluorescence guided surgery, augmented reality and adaptive hybrid surgery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Back by popular demand, the program included <strong>two interactive breakout sessions<\/strong> with a case-based review format. The Monday session covered the management of challenging tumors, such as pineal region tumors, insular tumors, fourth ventricular tumors and tumors of the eloquent motor cortex. Also included was a discussion of surgical approaches and techniques as well as complication avoidance and management strategies. The second breakout session discussed the modern management strategies for brain metastases, including newer techniques such as LITT as well as roles of different radiotherapeutic modalities.<\/p>\n<p>The Guidelines session featured a review of the current body of evidence guiding the management of various skull base tumors, including vestibular schwannoma, meningioma and chordoma.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend portion of the tumor program offered six of the highest scoring practical courses, led by world class faculty.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">3-D Surgical Neuroanatomy<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Modern Application of Radiosurgery<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Surgical Management of Eloquent Area Tumors<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Management of Challenging Brain Tumors<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Brain Tumor Update Part 1: Malignant Brain Tumors<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Brain Tumor Update Part 2: Benign Brain Tumors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The lunch seminars highlighted the latest advances across multiple oncological entities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Update on Diagnosis and Management of Low Grade Gliomas<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Current Management Strategies for Vestibular Schwannomas<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Surgery and Adjuvant Treatment of Malignant Gliomas<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Management of Pituitary Adenomas and Other Sellar Tumors<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Cutting Edge Management of Brain Metastases<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Advances in Imaging of Brain Tumors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you for those who attended the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Section on Tumors sessions.
