Like any challenge it brings opportunity along with adversity, particularly to reach a wider audience. The frustration of this circumstance brings us full circle to a similar position as a year ago. In spite of this there were several highlights for the Tumor section at the 2021 AANS annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>In the opening sessions the theme of stronger together resonated particularly with Coach Mike Kryzewski, who discussed changing our previous habits to reclaim our shared culture and connect with each. This process facilitates the change from a group of individuals to a team.<\/p>\n<p>The tumor section supported an exemplary 13 awards to recognize outstanding new research.<\/p>\n<p>The Best of Boston session was highlighted by Dr. Susan Chang discussing advanced imaging of gliomas; as well as, Dr. Alan Friedman and Dr. Mitch Berger discussing their paths as neurosurgeon\/scientists.<\/p>\n<p>The plenary session was highlighted by recent results of a promising early phase trial for targeted medical treatment of papillary craniopharyngioma.<\/p>\n<p>The tumor section was highlighted by leaders in skull base surgery such as Dr. Link discussing posterolateral approaches, Dr. Gardner discussing transclival approaches and Dr. Morcos discussing the far lateral and variations.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, new science was presented with high-ranking abstracts taking center stage.\u00a0 This included abstracts on novel techniques for intraoperative histological diagnosis and biomarker identification.
