Across all paying membership categories, as of September 29, we have seen a drop in member numbers. Active membership currently stands at 574 members, as opposed to 636 in 2019. This may be due to COVID-19 financial concerns, but we do not have data on the reasons that members stopped paying their dues. The Tumor Section Satellite Symposium is usually a vehicle that brings our members back into the fold. Unfortunately, the cancellation of this meeting together with the 2020 CNS Annual Meeting has further impacted our ability to reclaim dormant members and register new members. Of note, planning is underway for the 2021 CNS Annual Meeting and the hope is that we will be able to make up these losses with a strong advertising push leading into the meeting. For any members reading this who might be delinquent on dues, as they delayed paying while discretionary accounts may have been frozen, we urge you to reaffirm your commitment to the section by visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/myaans.aans.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">myaans.org<\/a> and paying your dues today.<\/p>\n<h2>Social Media<\/h2>\n<p>With the COVID-19 pandemic, social media is more important than ever to neurosurgical oncologists, and those neurosurgeons and neurosurgery programs who have embraced it have seen great results. We have now put together a team of students and trainees who are helping us with social media across various platforms: Ali Haider, MD; Lily Kim, MD; Lohit Velagupti; Vin Shen Ban, MD; Emal Lesha, MD; Lekhaj Daggubati, MD; Victoria Sanchez; Usman Beg; Alex Michael, MD; Mohammed Alvi, MBBS; and Dario Marotta. They are an outstanding team.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"www.facebook.com\/NSTumorSection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Tumor Section Facebook page<\/a> now has over 1,700 likes. Even without boosting (paying ad fees for) posts, we are reaching several thousand users organically with each time. Below is a sample of a successful post. Also, for example, a recent Tumor Talk flyer reached 216 followers, organically.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newsletters.aans.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/12\/screenshot-300x270.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"270\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsletters.aans.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/12\/screenshot-300x270.png 300w, https:\/\/newsletters.aans.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/12\/screenshot-768x692.png 768w, https:\/\/newsletters.aans.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/12\/screenshot.png 814w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Twitter page, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nstumorsection?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@NSTumorSection<\/a>, has remained active and has 3,451 followers, up from around 1,900 last year. An average post, like our recent post on the tumor section satellite meeting for next year, reached 3,811 people! I cannot emphasize enough how useful it is to be able to reach people like that in this time when we are still restricted from interacting in-person.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/the-aans-cns-joint-section-on-tumors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">business page on LinkedIn<\/a> actually has had the most growth in the last year, going from 78 followers to 755. If you have a LinkedIn profile that you have been neglecting, now might be a good time to brush it up. This platform will continue to grow in influence, as more of the business community uses it to share accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Tumor Section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nstumorsection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram page, @NSTumorSection<\/a>, now has 2,174 followers, almost double a year ago. We have seen rapid expansion of this group. For neurosurgery, Instagram is becoming a great platform to share videos and media from your practice to engage with the general public. If you share pictures\/videos and tag us in them, we can then repost them and boost your profile to our followers.<\/p>\n<p>Please let me know if there are new ways that you would like us to utilize these platforms.
