In 2017, the AANS\/CNS Joint Section on Tumor started a new Research Fellowship Award in collaboration with the NREF: the Andy T. Parsa Research Fellowship Award. This is given to the top scoring Research Grant or Young Investigator research proposal on brain tumors submitted to the NREF with a $50,000 annual grant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Andrew T. Parsa 2020-21 Research Fellowship Grant awardee is Victoria E. Clark<\/strong>, <strong>MD, PhD<\/strong>, of Massachusetts General Hospital, with a research project entitled \u201c<em>Characterizing Recurrent RNA Polymerase II Meningioma Driver Mutations<\/em>.\u201d Dr. Clark\u2019s sponsor is Richard A. Young, PhD. The Andrew T. Parsa Research Fellowship Grant awardee will be presented with a plaque at the AANS Annual Meeting and given the possibility to present their research during the CNS 2021 Tumor Session.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, in collaboration with the NREF, our section continues to award Research Fellowship Grants or Young Clinician Investigator Awards to research proposals on brain tumors submitted to the NREF. This year, two $40,000 awards will be given.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The AANS\/CNS Section on Tumors &amp; NREF 2020-21 Research Fellowship Grant awards<\/strong> will be given to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Matei A. Banu, MD<\/strong>, of Columbia University for a research project entitled: \u201c<em>Leveraging metabolic vulnerabilities of cell populations in the glioma microenvironment to trigger ferroptotic cell death and immune response in GBM.<\/em>\u201d Dr. Banu\u2019s sponsor is Jeffrey N. Bruce, MD, FAANS.<\/li>\n<li>Ramin A. Morshed, MD, of University of California, San Francisco, for a research project entitled \u201cIdentification of genes mediating brain-tropism in a syngeneic model of metastatic breast cancer.\u201d Dr. Morshed\u2019s sponsor is Manish K. Aghi, MD, PhD, FAANS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of note, a $50,000 Research Fellowship Grant is also given each year by B*CURED, a private foundation, in collaboration with NREF.
