AANS Neurotrauma Offerings

By: John Morrison, MD, FAANS

This year at the 2024 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting, May 3-6, in Chicago, there will be two trauma sessions.  We will be hearing from two Natus Award winners for best papers in neurocritical care and neurotrauma discussing hyperosmolar therapy for acute spinal cord injury and paeoniflorin regulates ferroptosis after traumatic brain injury.  We also will have four named lectures, including by  Julian Bailes, MD, FAANS, and Patti Raksin, MD, FAANS, former and current Joint trauma section chairperson, respectively.  The first session will address gun violence in Chicago, and the USA at large, particularly timely given the current climate, as well as the recent position paper by the AANS. The Charles Tator Spinal Cord Injury Resident Research Award winner will discuss use of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Derived Exosome to Alleviate Spinal Cord Injury.  We also will feature the Young Neurosurgeon Research/Next Best Abstracts from Shikha Singh, David Zarrin, Yutaka Morishima and John Yue, MD. On Saturday, May 4, 2024 , there will be Rapid Fire Abstract Presentations for Trauma & Peripheral Nerve where 17 abstracts for each topic will be discussed.  Moderators will be  Emily Sieg, MD, FAANS, and David Wright, MD, of the University of Louisville and Emory University, respectively.  We hope to see you and for you to enjoy the program at this year’s AANS Annual Meeting!
