Young Neurosurgeons Reception/YNC Report

The April 2019 the AANS Tumor Section Young Neurosurgeons Reception, honoring speaker Ganesh Rao, MD, FAANS, was well-attended by junior faculty, residents and medical students. Dr. Rao tailored his speech to guide the career development of graduating neurosurgery residents and young neurosurgery faculty members. He offered lessons from his career path to his current role as surgeon-scientist and CNS president. Topics included the importance of understanding responsibilities/expectations, clinical/research resource support, mentorship and life balance. Dr. Rao also offered advice on a successful path to NIH career development and research funding. The reception allowed extensive interaction and discussion between Dr. Rao and attendees at all career levels.

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the AANS/CNS Tumor Section, the 2019 CNS Young Neurosurgeons Reception will feature honored guest Mark Rosenblum, MD, FAANS(L), founding member and first chair of the AANS/CNS Tumor Section. The reception will take place on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:30 in the Nob Hill A/B room of the Marriott Marquis headquarters hotel. As Chair Emeritus of the Department of Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center at Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Rosenblum will provide insight into the rich history of the Tumor Section and provide thoughts on evolving challenges and opportunities for neurosurgeons beginning careers focusing on brain tumors.

This is an excellent opportunity for students, residents and young faculty to gain perspective on the section and network with Dr. Rosenblum and senior tumor faculty.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the CNS Young Neurosurgeons Tumor Reception!
